Peridot Inclusions – 7

#gemystique

Part 1 of a 2-part series of posts: Yellow fibers in Peridot from Pakistan.

Pakistani Peridot sometimes contain extremely thin to relatively thick hair-fine to acicular yellow fibers. As mentioned in earlier posts, these yellow fibers hint at high temperature contact metamorphic deposit from which their host Peridot originates. This particular Peridot under examination displays how these fibers can vary in thickness, texture and appearance. These yellow fibers may occur individually and may also occur in groups of individual fibers tightly packed together. When they are packed together, they tend to be reflective when examined under fiber-optic illumination. Images display how these inclusions appear under varying lighting environments.

Illumination techniques applied: Dark-Field Illumination and Oblique Fiber-Optic Illumination.
