Peridot Inclusions – 4

#gemystique

Peridots from the Supat Valley in Pakistan are known for their eye-catching saturated hues, however they are also host to some beautiful inclusions. They often contain rough edged primary fluid inclusions and negative crystals which may also sometimes carry dark solid mineral inclusions within them. These dark brownish/greenish/blackish inclusions can be chromite, chromian spinel, grains of ore or picotite grains. (Advanced gemological testing is required to accurately identify these mineral inclusions).

Occasionally, they also contain needles of ludwigite-vonsenite that range from extremely thin to relatively thick in formation along with hair-fine to acicular yellow fibers. A few of these very fine fibers can be seen in these pictures. These needles and fibers hint at high temperature contact metamorphic deposit from which their host peridot originates i.e. Supat, Pakistan.
