Gemystique® is a Gemological Consultancy Service based in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. Established in 2017, it is the brainchild of Sheikh Fahad Abbas (Fadi Sheikh) who is a Graduate Gemologist (GG) and an Accredited Jewelry Professional (AJP) from the Gemological Institute of America, Carlsbad, California. Gemystique® is a sole proprietorship and a trade mark registered in Pakistan with Fadi Sheikh at the helm

We share gemological information, source gems, perform identification and quality checks, sort, provide consultation and export. Gemystique’s vast array of services and activities are encompassed within 3 main areas: Gemology, Consultancy and Photomicrography

Gemology:
Our gemology section consists of sharing regular gemological articles on various social media platforms and online gems/gemological groups. Gemystique® is so far the only Gemological Consultancy Service in Pakistan that is actively involved in sharing online articles about the various Gem Species/Varieties found in Pakistan, Inclusions, Gem Testing Techniques and Gemology. Our aim behind these articles is to highlight the importance of Pakistan, as a major gem producing region to the world, sharing information with fellow industry members, gemologists and students, and also to spread awareness in the general public about the field of gemology

Consultancy:
Our consultancy section comprises of providing professional and expert consultations to our clients on various gems and gemological matters related to Pakistan. We provide professional opinions and solutions to issues related from sourcing, procuring and exporting gems to gem identification and sorting etc. Our detailed consultations are provided as per our client’s requirements and comfort level, through various mediums like telephonic conversations, messages, written opinions to video conferences  

Photomicrography:
Gemystique® prides itself to be the only Gemological Consultancy Service in Pakistan that regularly publishes Photomicrographs of Gem Inclusions. These photomicrographs are shared in tandem with our gemology articles/blog and provide a visual reference to the gemological information shared in our articles about numerous natural and synthetic gemstones   

Our clients are based both in Pakistan and in various countries across the globe. Where our local clientele consists of members of the Gems and Jewelry fraternity along with the general public, our international clientele consists of Gem Cutters / Manufacturers, Gem Suppliers, Jewelry Designers / Makers, Big – Small Gems and Jewelry Business’s, Gems / Gemology Enthusiasts and Private Collector’s / Individual’s etc.    

The ideology behind Gemystique’s inception is deeply linked to the core issues faced by the Gems – Gemology Sector in Pakistan. While Pakistan is one of the most abundantly gifted countries in the world when it comes to various different gem and mineral species and varieties, there is a severe gap and lack of professional services being offered. Unfortunately, a high degree of unprofessionalism and unethical to illegal business practices, within the Gems – Gemology Sector, has tarnished Pakistan’s image on the international stage. From rampant unsolicited and aggressive marketing techniques, misrepresentation both intentional or due to communication limitations, lack of adherence to ethical business practices to illegal exports etc. the issues and their reasons are nearly endless. Such actions not only cause irreparable damage to the Gem Business’s already operating in Pakistan who adhere to the professional norms, but also cause a massive financial loss to the country’s economy

Gemystique’s aim is to rectify these issues in a way that bridges this gap and present the true positive face of Pakistan’s Gem’s Sector to the world. We strive to achieve this by providing gemological services to our clients with utmost levels of Professionalism and Integrity while being completely transparent about the issues and situation on the ground. In a nutshell, we identify our client’s needs and requirements and fulfill them in a manner that not satisfies our clients but also abides by all the laws and regulations of the land

“My journey into this field was purely coincidental. Having no prior knowledge or interest about gemstones or gemology, I was pursuing a legal career and studying law until a fortuitous turn of events completely changed things for me and it was as if I had found my calling. A hidden passion within was ignited and a long-term plan began to formulate. To successfully execute that plan however, required me to study about gemstones and gemology. Enter GIA, what seemed an impossibility at one point, turned into reality in 2016 when I started the GG course at the GIA in Carlsbad, CA. My time at the GIA was and will always be one of my most cherished memories. The knowledge I gained and the relationships I developed during my time there only encouraged my ambition and practically solidified my plans. Upon returning to Pakistan in 2017, I setup Gemystique® with the intention to fill the gap that has disconnected such a major gem source like Pakistan from the world and to put Pakistan back on the international stage in a way it truly deserves and is worthy of. So many gem species and varieties found in abundance and yet such a negative projection internationally among the gem trade fraternity. Where there are numerous reasons for that negative projection, one thing is certain that it is only how we, the Pakistani gem trade community, conduct ourselves and our business’s that will change that negative projection into a positive one. Educating the general public and members of the trade both in Pakistan and in other countries regarding the issues faced while conducting our business with professionalism, integrity and keeping values in mind is the only way forward. Gemystique® is just a small step in that direction. Hopefully, our contribution and efforts will encourage more youngsters to take up this profession in Pakistan, not just to make a quick buck, but to look at the bigger picture and ultimately help build and strengthen the positive image of this indescribably important gem source.”
