“Another series of pictures of emerald inclusions from the Swat area in Pakistan. Observing again how they change appearance under varying lighting conditions. Blackish high relief mineral inclusions surrounded by internal fractures and numerous liquid inclusions. They become highly reflective when observed directly with a fiber-optic light.
While observing the stone with a fiber-optic light I noticed this very small pyrite crystal hidden deep inside the stone. Goes to show how important the use of fiber-optic illumination is in microscopy. Many mineral inclusions pop right up under fiber-optic illumination while they have the tendency to remain hidden under dark-field illumination.”
