Emerald Inclusions – 4

From the archives: Swat Emeralds.

“One more from the archives about emeralds from the Swat area in Pakistan. This particular batch was very interesting. Usually the rough emeralds I get to examine, for the most part, all have very smooth and clear crystal faces and it’s the inclusions that are intriguing. This batch however had some very fascinating external characteristics that I examined for the first time, along with the usual suspects internally.

First few pictures show the various unusual external patterns on the crystal faces. One of the crystals exhibits the trade mark internal hexagonal growth which is just beautiful to look at. Another one has what appears to be biotite mica inclusions. And then the usual inclusions and crystal growth patterns associated with emeralds from this region.”
